Reds & Greens

Hey Dolls!!

Hope all is well!  Looking back at these pictures is just making me crack up laughing.  I look so upset, but I promise I wasn't upset at all.  It was H-O-T as I don't know what this day, so my picture taking mood quickly dwindled hence the unhappy and confused look on some of the pictures. Please forgive me for the MEAN MUG, LOL!!

I love this combination of colors together.  There are ways of blending reds and greens together without looking to "Christmasey".  For me the trick is paring all versions of both color families together.  Here I'm wearing the Primary Color Red, which I call True Red and Olive Green and a pop of chartruse (in the neckalce) which can be considered a part of the Green color family as well.

I also like to pair burgundy or as its being called this year "Oxblood" with Olive green and True Green. It's just important to remember to play around with color schemes and DON'T be afraid to mix them up.

What I'm Wearing:  Thrifted Blazer/Thrifted Necklace Julie's Walk In Closet/Banana Republic Pants/Zara Pumps/Thrifted Earrings/Old Navy Ring

Got D.I.M.E.???

Hey Dolls!!

Its Finance Friday, and keeping in with the theme of Life Insurance Awareness Month, we're going to learn a way that determines the amount of coverage you will need.  The way we're going to discuss to determine this is to figure out your D.I.M.E.  What's D.I.M.E.?  D.I.M.E. is an acronym for the following category breakdown:

DEBT
INCOME
MORTGAGE
EDUCATION

Now, what does that mean and how do you calculate it?  Well lets take a look at a hypothetical example:

Its a s simple as that.  For this example, this family has an Insurable Need of $730,000.  This example is just a helpful guide for you to calculate where you are and one of many ways to determine your family's insurable need.  Keep in mind, it is ALWAYS good measure to speak to an expert for guidance before making these decisions.

These categories are also considered the main categories that most people encounter in life.  If you want to add more expenses to the equation, feel free to do so.  For instance, you can include Funeral Expenses as an additional category to ensure that is covered.  Also, accounting for all of your children and family (and the debt they have that you assume the responsibility for) is very important to get an accurate calculation.

I hope this information helps Dolls!!!  Have a Fantastic Finance Friday!!!

How Many Ways!

Hey Dolls!!

Today, I'm going to launch something new that I'd like to incorporate into the blog.  I'm launching a segment called "How Many Ways."  Now, if you don't know by now, What's More Important Than Fashion? focuses on Fashion and Finance and I thought this was one of many lovely ways to combine the two.  How, you ask...well "How Many Ways" will feature me getting the MOST out of my clothes.  I'll feature pictures of me wearing one item MULTIPLE ways. This is a Win Win situation because you save money and remain fashionable.

This idea was inspired from a few places.  You know in the mainstream magazines where they feature like five to ten items  of clothing and create like a month's worth of looks with?  Now, I'm not quite there yet (LOL), although that is one of my goals to try in the future.  Its definitely inspirational.  The next, place that inspired me to launch "How Many Ways" was...blogging, DUH!

I am a BIG Fan of Nany's Klozet and her blog gave me full confirmation that this is something that I can do.  She has a segment on Wednesdays that she calls:  REMIX and she shows you how she makes the BEST use of her clothes.  I figured, why not give it a try and put my own spin on it.  So here goes...My very first "How Many Ways" segment.  Hope you guys like it!!!

Alright Dolls, so I have worn this little White Old Navy Blazer to DEATH, LOL!!  But I can't help it, I love it.  I found this blazer at Old Navy a few years ago, so long ago that I don't remember how much I actually paid for it but I KNOW I didn't pay FULL price!!  I was actually surprised when I looked back through my blog post pictures that I had only showcased it four times, cause I wear this thing ALL THE TIME!  So much so, that I'm actually in the market to buy another one.  I'm not sure how many more Dry Cleaner visits this baby can take!  It's just I forget to shop for one, because when I see them in the store, in my head I go "I already have a White Blazer" and I start shopping for other things.  But... I will definitely be looking for a new one ASAP. Now, I don't know about you, but for me when I LOOK for specific items its SO HARD to find them, UGH.  But I won't quit.  Seeing as this one is more of a cropped look, I will definitely opt for a different style with my next White Blazer.

Ok Dolls, so which look was your favorite?  Weigh in!  Cast your vote and make it count!

Brights and Black

Hey Dolls!!

I hope all is well with you!  I'll keep this picture filled post short and sweet! For me, Fall has ALWAYS been my favorite season, but this year I am holding on to Summer with all my might.  I'm not ready to give it up (and living in Florida helps, LOL!).  So in my efforts to hold on to Summer, I am wearing bright colors and a pattern that pops AND my white shoes cause we know those OLD rules have been laid to bed about White after Labor Day.
For my long time supporters, notice anything NEW about What's More Important Than Fashion?  Yes, we got a MAKEOVER!  It was a long time coming.  As I told you guys, I didn't want to spend any money on Blog Design until I was sure that I was fully committed to the venture of blogging.  Here I am over a year later and all in!  I'm LOVE, LOVE, LOVING my new look and I have to give virtual hugs and a SHOUT OUT to Jessie at My Mod Style for her wonderful work!  I'm sure it was difficult to deal with my crazy demands and constant changes to her design, but she put up with me and she was a joy to work with.  Thanks so much for EVERYTHING Jessie!!!
What I'm Wearing:  Fun & Flirt Shirt via Marshall's/Forever 21 Belt/ Thrifted Pants/Aldo Pumps/ Target Bracelet
Anyhoo Dolls, as I said I was gonna be brief and here I go rambling.  Have a Fabulous Week! And don't forget, there is still time for you to enter the Giveaways!

Life Insurance Awareness Month!

Hey Dolls!!

Coming to you with a Finance Friday topic - Life Insurance.  For those of you who don't know, September is Life Insurance Awareness Month.  2012 marks the 9th Anniversary of Life Insurance Awareness Month and what the celebration does is raise awareness to the world about the need for Life Insurance.

Now more than ever, it is vital that consumers protect their financial security. Life Insurance has been providing this kind of protection to Americans for more than 200 years!  I'm not sure if anyone has experienced this, but within the last year I suffered the loss of a relative and our family experienced something I have never experienced before in my life and I have encountered death and attended more funerals in my life than care to remember.

My relative passed away very unexpectedly and was uninsured.  That left the family in a horrible place trying to collect funds in order to provide a worthwhile Home Going Ceremony for our loved one.

Speaking from a painful experience, I have to share with those unknowing it is extremely imperative that you obtain some form of Life Insurance.  The last thing that you want to think of while grieving is how to come up with money that no one has.  I understand with these trying economic times, families have re-designed their budgets to try and eliminate every unnecessary expense they can think of.  Well, I'm here to tell you, YOU CAN NOT AFFORD TO ELIMINATE Life Insurance from your monthly budget!!

I want you guys to take a look at this video featuring Lamar Odom.  Lamar happens to be one of my FAVORITE Basketball Players (Go Lakers!) and some of you non-sports fans may recognize him from being a reality TV star with his in-laws The Kardashian's.  In this video you will see a different side of Lamar Odom.  In this video Lamar is humble and candid about how Life Insurance helped him shape his life!
Now that I have shared with you that there is an undeniable NEED for Life Insurance, come back next week and we can get into how you can determine the amount of coverage or as I like to call it protection you need to make sure that you and your family are properly insured.  And for those of you who already have a form of Life Insurance, this will show you how to "Inspect what you expect."

That's it for now Dolls!!!  Stay informed!  Don't forget there is still time to enter my ChoklatTea Giveaway!

Makal - Fly Guy of The Moment

Hey Dolls!!

As the saying goes, "First time for EVERYTHING", right?  Well, I am pleased to present at What's More Important Than Fashion FIRST!  Today we are pleased to present our very first "Fly Guy of The Moment"! Leading the pack we have Mr. Makal Cross.

Makal is an MBA graduate, and is currently the Marketing Manager with the Marketing/Apparel giant, PAi INC, as well as a hip-hop musical artist.  In addition Makal founded and started "SMPLY AWSME" Clothing in 2004, which he is the CEO, and owner...working alongside his business partner, William "ILL WILL" Hopson.

Makal reps my Hometown of St. Louis and we have very close family ties.  He is my cousin's cousin, LOL!!!

Check out how Makal explains his personal style:

Describe your Personal Style.
My personal style is universal. I like to be comfortable, yet also exude confidence, and sophistication

How often do you change up your style?
I change up my style everyday, LOL! Whatever my responsibility is for that 24/7 day grind, that's what will reflect in my choice of wear.

What are your favorite brands and places to shop?
My favorite brands are Polo, Givenchy, Nike, Jordan, etc...LOL! But my all time favorite is my own clothing brand, SMPLY AWSME. Yes I'm biased, LOL!

Who is your fashion icon?
My fashion icons range from My Father, who is the epitome of style. Michael Jackson, Nas, Kanye...the world in itself!

What is your favorite fashion accessory?
My favorite accessory is anything that enhances the outfit, pretty simple huh?!

What trend/style do you love?
I tend to stay away from trends(I'm running from that as we speak). Styles that I like are anything that resonates with creativity.

What trend/style do you hate?

Hate is a strong word...I dislike verbs that lack originality, LOL!

What are wardrobe staples that everyone should have in their closet?
Personally speaking as a man, 2 essentials that you should have is a nice tailored suit, and a slick pair of hard bottoms. For women, an immaculate pair of heels.

What is one fashionable item you couldn't live without?
Hmmm...good question! Some nice denims.

If you could raid someone's closet, who's would it be?
You all are trying to have people look at me differently now, lol! Scott from "Keeping Up With The Kardashian's" dresses clean, I tip my hat!

Besides the U.S., where else would you love to go shopping?
Of course...PARIS!!! Duh, LOL!!!

So Dolls, don't you just LOVE the style of our very first "Fly Guy of The Moment"?  Makal, brings something fabulous to the table with his sophisticated style.  I can truly appreciate when a guy pushes the envelope with his style and dares to be different.  Men take notes, you have options beyond jeans, and Jordans!  And I agree with you, Scott Disick has fabulous  style.  I have been inspired by him myself (here).

Makal set the bar high as our FIRST "Fly Guy of The Moment", be sure and show him some LOVE Dolls!  And as ALWAYS....
