Blogger Inspired Fashion Week 2013 Featuring: Kimberly - Penny Pincher Fashion

Hey Dolls!!

Aren’t you just loving Blogger Inspired Fashion Week so far?  Today’s feature comes from what I like to call a “Fashion and Finance Girl” (like me).  Meet Kimberly from Penny Pincher Fashion.  I absolutely LOVE her blog.  I came across Kim’s blog because she left a comment on my blog last year from my “Everybody’s Pants” post where I featured all of the bloggers I knew of or was following at the time rocking those fab floral print pants from H&M.  She provided me a link to her blog and I’ve been hooked ever since.  First of all, the name of Kimberly’s blog sparked my interest because I’m like yaaaaay, this is definitely another Fashion and Finance Girl, how about that.
I just love Kim’s blog.  There are several installments that I enjoy on Penny Pincher Fashion including:  Sales Alerts, Looks for Less, Steals Under…, and Recent Purchases.  Another thing I love about Kimberly and her blog is her consistency with posting motivates me to get better at that, it’s definitely a Blog Goal of mine! Kimberly is also doing great things in her collaborations with Lucky Magazine as a contributor.  I admire that so much.  Awesome!!  Additionally, Kim is a Stay-At-Home Mom who remains stylish and I can’t tell you how much I LOVE that.  Some women really just feel like when you become a Mom you can’t be fashionable, keep breaking down those stereotypes Kim, I LOVE it!!!
Name: Kimberly Smith
Age (optional): 30-something  :)
Full Time Career: Stay-at-home mom/blogger
Tell Me and My Readers a little bit about yourself and your background.
I have been married for 13 years and have 2 beautiful kids (ages 5 and 9). I was born & raised in Oregon, but now live in upstate New York. I've always been passionate about fashion & beauty, but when I left behind my career in Sales Management to be a stay-at-home mom, I had to learn how to be stylish on a budget. Many of my friends were coming to me for style advice, asking me about the latest trends and how I found such good I decided to start a blog to help other women who were looking for affordable fashion too.

How would you describe your signature style?
Classic, feminine & slightly preppy at times

How do you go about creating an outfit or look?
I usually am dressing based on what I have planned for the day. If I have the freedom to dress however I want without restrictions, I always base it on what kind of mood I'm in. Sometimes when I buy a new piece (like a fabulous statement necklace or a killer pair of heels), I will use that item as my jumping off point and build the outfit around it.

What is your FAVORITE Feature to accentuate?
I have a smaller upper body, so in most looks I create, I try to make sure my waist is defined.
Do you have any Fashion Challenges?
I have broad shoulders with a smaller waist, so when I buy a jacket or blazer, I have to make sure it fits through the shoulders and then I have the waist (& sometimes the arms) taken in. Similarly with sheath or shift dresses, because my lower body is pear-shaped, I have to buy them to fit through the hips and then have the waist/bust taken in. I couldn't live without my tailor!!

What are your FAVORITE places to shop?
J. Crew & Gap for classic pieces; ZARA, H&M and Forever 21 for trends

Who are your FAVORITE Designers and/or Clothing Brands?
As mentioned above, I love J. Crew for their silk blouses and sweaters. They hold up really well and are great for layering. Gap jeans/trousers fit me the best - I love that they come in tall so they are the perfect length for me. H&M blazers are a great quality for the price - they look higher end than they are. ZARA and ASOS also have great on-trend pieces + I love their free shipping/return policy.
Is there a Spring/Summer trend that you’re dying to incorporate into your wardrobe?
Black & White - I can't seem to get enough of it and have already started mixing pieces from my closet to come up with different looks (see this post).

Why Blogging?  What turned you on to the Blogosphere?
See bio above. Also, I saw a need for this type of blog - while there were many "budget" sites out there, I wanted to focus on taking affordable pieces and making them look high-end.

What thing(s) sets your blog apart from other blogs?
I love to engage with my readers. When someone emails me with a styling question, I respond almost immediately. I really enjoy helping other women and I want them to know how much I appreciate their support. I also know how much work it is to keep track of sales on a daily basis (which is essential for a budget-shopper), so I wanted to save my readers time & do it for them - see my Sales Alert Page.

Where do you see your Blog a year from now?
Hopefully it continues to grow. I have been so blessed that it's gotten to where it is now in just 2 short years. I would like to expand & do some videos (readers have been asking for this), but I want to wait until it can be absolutely flawless. There are also some big retailers that I would love to collaborate with. But, I am a bit of a perfectionist, so I don't want to launch into a new venue or partnership until it is 100% right.

Name 3 Bloggers whose style you just live for.
Atlantic-Pacific, Pink Peonies & Wendy’s Lookbook
As you know, my blog is geared towards FASHION and FINANCE, so tell me in what ways you combine the two.
My site has always been & will always be focused on affordable pieces – even if I choose to invest in a more expensive piece (like my Michael Kors watch), I will offer my readers a link to a similar budget-friendly style.  Fashion should be fun & accessible for everyone…but I don’t believe it’s right to go into debt just so you can stay stylish.  Hopefully, I am helping my readers attain the looks they want without the guilt of spending too much money.

What advice would you give to up and coming Fashion Bloggers?
Be true to yourself, focus your site on the things you are passionate about, stay humble & always say thank you.
Kim’s interview was great!  I loved learning about how she approached blogging to fit her needs and lifestyle.  I can tell she makes a conscious effort to share content that benefits the majority of women out here who still want to look fabulous on a budget.

I had an amazing time trying to narrow down which one of Kim’s looks I wanted to duplicate, she has so many good ones.  I also ended up spotting some items I wanted to purchase that I don’t have in my closet based on her pictures, LOL!!  But I had to remain focused.  So, here we go Dolls.  I decided on this look featured on Penny Pincher Fashion on 3/21/2012 in a post titled:  In The Navy Now.  I hope you like my re-create Kimberly!!
