Blogger Inspired Fashion Week 2013 Featuring: Monroe Steele - Fashion Steele NYC

Hey Dolls!!

Blogger Inspired Fashion Week is in Full Swing right now!  Today we have the lovely Monroe Steele from Fashion Steele NYC.  Isn’t that the cutest play on words?  That name is what led me to her blog.  I’ve been admiring the work that Monroe has done with her blog for a while now.  She has these weekly posts that she calls “Fashion Steele of The Week” where she shares with her readers great deals she’s found on amazing wardrobe pieces.  Additionally, she organized a NYC Fashion Bloggers Meet-up Group and I just love that!  She is definitely leaving her mark in the Fashion scene and representing for the Fashion Bloggers of the world.  I’ve spotted her several times on Essence Magazine’s Website and I nearly lost it when I saw her on an episode of June Ambrose’s TV Show “Styled by June”.
I could go on and on, but I’ll let you guys learn more about Monroe in her own words.  Take a look at the interview below:
Name: Monroe Steele
Age (optional): 28
Full Time Career:  Physical Therapist (Part-time), Fashion Blogger (Part-time)

Tell Me and My Readers a little bit about yourself and your background.
I started my blog Fashion Steele NYC in October of 2010 after reading an article in amNY newspaper about the 6 fashion bloggers you should know. I didn’t even know what a fashion blogger was before then or about the world of blogging period. It opened up this whole new world for me. I have always been interested in writing and wrote for my collegiate newspaper as well as a fashion enthusiast. Blogging was my outlet to be able to do both of those things while working in the health field.

How would you describe your signature style?
My style is all over the place. It really just depends on how I am feeling. I would like to say is very girly with a rocker twist. I can’t wear anything too frilly and girly without edging it out a bit.

How do you go about creating an outfit or look?
I never have a starting point such as a shoe or an accessory. I just try to balance my outfits out. If I’m wearing a very voluminous bottom then I will wear a skin tight top and vice versa.

What is your FAVORITE Feature to accentuate?
I have great legs…so legs! It’s so hard in this very cold NYC weather though at the moment. So for now long pencil skirts and skinny denim.

Do you have any Fashion Challenges?
I have big feet. Size 10 US. So it’s hard for me to find shoes in my size especially the ones I really want because they sell out fast and aren’t stocked as frequently. Also I wear a 41 in Euro shoes so I don’t own many Italian/French shoes because most often they don’t make them in my size…which sucks.

What are your FAVORITE places to shop?
I love to thrift shop so there are a plethora of thrift stores around the city that I frequent regularly such as Housing Works and Vintage Thrift. I also shop A LOT at Loehmanns’. It’s my very favorite store for designer deals.

Who are your FAVORITE Designers and/or Clothing Brands?
Right now I’m in love with any heel Alexander Wang or L.A.M.B. makes. I’m really into Tibi for skirts (although I don’t own any) and anything Joy Cioci makes is stunning.

Is there a Spring/Summer trend that you’re dying to incorporate into your wardrobe? Stripes….I love them but I don’t think the trend will last so I may only add 1-2 pieces in my wardrobe.

Why Blogging?  What turned you on to the Blogosphere? See 4th question.

What thing(s) sets your blog apart from other blogs?  I try to be original in content. But let’s face it everyone has a blog and it’s hard to stand out so I try to incorporate the things I am good at into the blog as well such as thrifting and videos.

Where do you see your Blog a year from now?
Hopefully with a larger following and that it continues to grow. I’d love to work with more designers and companies and do more brand ambassadorships.

Name 3 Bloggers whose style you just live for.
Aimee from Song of Style, Ashley from Ring My Bell and Karen from Where Did U Get That

As you know, my blog is geared towards FASHION and FINANCE, so tell me in what ways you combine the two.
I do a lot of thrift shopping. I love it and have found it’s not hard to look great on a limited budget. I incorporate thrifted items into my outfit posts as well. I also started the Thrift and the City tour here in NYC where I show people where and how to thrift. It’s been a great success.

What advice would you give to up and coming Fashion Bloggers?
Patience…
Monroe’s style is fabulous and I’d have to agree it’s just how she described it Girly with a Rocker Twist.  She is so great at balancing soft and hard.  She also, makes me hope and pray that Tampa gets a Loehmann’s very soon, she finds EVERYTHING in there!!  I don’t know about you Dolls, but Monroe has definitely motivated me to take my blog to higher heights and make my mark.  That patience thing….I’ll work on it.

Now on to the re-creation….Since Monroe has been at this blogging thing longer than most of us and she is a very consistent poster so I had soooo many looks to choose from.  I was really torn with my decision.  But I FINALLY chose the look from her Mango's It Girl...I WANNA WIN! post on 10/4/2011.  So dolls, how did I do?  Monroe, I hope you like it girl!
Weigh in Dolls, Show the lady behind Fashion Steele NYC some love!
